The Role

The Staff Accountant will provide administrative, tax and general accounting support to the finance team as a whole.

The Staff Accountant will have a thorough understanding of accounting principles and fundamental tax acumen, and will assist with routine department tasks, reconcile various accounts, handle clerical accounting operations, and provide general help throughout the department as needed.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Account reconciliation preparation, including but not limited to; cash, reinsurance, investments, suspense, policy loans.
  • Assist with research and compilation of annual Department of Insurance filings
  • Assist, as directed, with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements on a GAAP and statutory basis.
  • Provide assistance with analysis of financial results.
  • Assist with premium and municipal tax filings.
  • Assist with federal and state income tax compliance including estimated tax payments and filing of federal and state income returns.
  • Assist with tax provisioning for year end and quarterly GAAP and statutory financial statements.
  • File organization and maintenance, including new file set up, scanning documents, etc.

Your Experience

  • BA or AA degree in Accounting or related field; preference will be given to candidates with a 4 year degree.
  • Previous experience in professional environment; life insurance industry a plus, but not required.
  • Experience, or interest in, corporate taxation a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver timely results and attentive to deadlines.

  • Strong MS Office skills
  • Knowledge of Oracle and CorpTax is valuable
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to collaborate with team members
  • Extremely organized; sound judgment and able to handle multiple and changing priorities
  • Keen eye for detail and accuracy
