The Role

This position is responsible for ensuring the proper accounting and reporting for the organization’s complex portfolio of investments, performing detailed analysis of investment results and communicating to senior management.  Kuvare and its US-based insurance company subsidiaries utilize third party administrators (TPAs) to perform the detailed accounting and operational components of the Insurance Companies’ investing activities.  This role is a critical partner with the TPAs and is responsible for the accuracy of the investment information in the financial statements of the Insurance Companies as well as related disclosures. This person assists with the TPA relationship and is a key partner of actuarial with responsibility for the performance of all manual and automated accounting systems ensuring accurate accounting and reporting for these investments according to regulatory standards, industry guidelines and company policies.

  • This position interacts with the Insurance Companies’ third party administrators and provides support in building the necessary infrastructure, reporting and analysis capabilities while also ensuring timely and accurate reporting each month.
  • Review and challenge the investment data received from the TPAs. Review all data for accuracy while also gaining an understanding of underlying drivers of investment results and communicate to senior management.
  • Review the valuation of investments and ensure that it is consistent with the Insurance Companies’ stated policies and current accounting guidelines.
  • Coordination of the automated feeds of investment data from the TPAs into the quarterly statutory financial statements
  • Analysis of investment financial results on statutory/GAAP basis
  • Provide the appropriate investment reporting and analysis on a monthly basis to senior management.
  • Prepare accruals and journal entries, reconcile sub-feeds and record data in the GL, etc.
  • Support the development and maintenance of all investment related policies, including accounting, valuation, impairments and operational.
  • Research of accounting literature for new investment products or scenarios.
  • Monitoring changes in accounting principles (STAT and GAAP) to determine the impact on the company’s current investment portfolio and/or future investment strategies.
  • Provide input to structure of the GL/other data systems to meet the company’s current and future reporting needs.
  • Reconcile investment balance sheet accounts from various data. Develop, document and implement controls and procedures in accordance with Sarb-Ox and MAR.

Your Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in finance or accounting.
  • CPA is strongly preferred.
  • 5 to 7 years of investment accounting experience
  • Experience with life insurance, annuity products and/or reinsurance is a strong plus

  • Expertise in accounting systems and controls typically found in the insurance industry.
  • A solid understanding of the accounting requirements for investment products in accordance with statutory
